FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS LEARN HOW TO "BUILD BRIDGES" BETWEEN PEOPLE AND WITH TOOTHPICKS, MARSHMALLOWS, AND GUM DROPS!
This month, fifth grade students learned that to make friends, they have to learn to "build bridges" by communicating, respecting differences, and cooperating with others. This idea was practiced as they worked in teams to build bridges out of candy and toothpicks. The students had to "communicate" to come up with a plan to build their bridge. They practiced listening to different opinions and fairly choosing the best solution. To do this, they had to practice their cooperation skills of working together and treating one another with respect. We ended up with many wonderful bridge designs, and, hopefully, with more students understanding what it takes to get along successfully with others.
