Philosophy Statement
The School Counselors of Prince William County Public Schools adhere to the philosophy that all students can be successful and that a school counseling program is an essential and integral part of Prince William County Public Schools’ overall education process. The program is being built on the assumption that educational, career, and personal objectives are attainable with school counseling for all students is provided. Growth and learning are developmental; therefore, school counseling programs must be developmental and sequential.
The developmental school counseling program, when fully implemented, will provide:
- Supportive networks for all students, K-5, that include parents, community members, and school stakeholders.
- Opportunities for all students to receive counseling and guidance in the academic, career, and personal/social domains.
- Support for students to develop positive character traits and skills to become productive citizens.
- Planning and implementation that considers all students’ ethnic, cultural, racial, and special needs.
- Access for all students to a full-time, state-certified, master’s-degree-level school counselor to deliver the counseling program.
- Accountability by using data to drive program development and evaluation.
