Welcome to The Signal Hill Student Council Association Page!
Signal Hill Elementary is very lucky to have a wonderful Student Council Association.
Each first through fifth grade classroom has 2 SCA classroom representatives. These students are responsible, positive, and show leadership abilities. They attend monthly SCA meetings and communicate information on school activities to and from their respective classrooms. The SCA is responsible for our community outreach programs, and for helping make Signal Hill a great place for all our students.

Last school year (2008-09), the SCA worked hard on 3 different community outreach campaigns:

The first program was Operation Turkey. This is a food drive that we participate in annually around Thanksgiving. All students were asked to bring in canned goods that were donated to the local food bank to help families in need. During our food drive this year, we were able to fill 32 boxes of food that were donated to SERVE.
During the week of February 17th, all SCA classroom representatives encouraged their classmates, parents and all school staff,  to bring in "Pennies for Patients."  This was a campaign to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. All the money raised will help fund vital research and  help support children with blood cancers, and their families.
Signal Hill has participated in this campaign for many years.  This school year, our staff and students raised $1,187.75.  Our students learned an incredible lesson about helping others and that "every penny counts."
Our final outreach program for the school year began after Spring Break. One of our 2nd grade students and an SCA class representative, John O’Brien, asked if we could help his older brother raise funds for The American Diabetes Association. Many of our SCA representatives know a student diagnosed with diabetes, so they jumped at the chance to help out. During the week of April 20th, we asked all students to donate a "Dollar for Diabetes." The SCA class representatives then gave a pledge card to any student that brought in a donation. The pledge cards were displayed around the school to show our dedication and motivation to help others.
If you have any questions or comments about the SCA, please contact Brian Peterson, our SCA advisor at petersbp@pwcs.edu

The process of choosing classroom representatives and electing SCA officers will be starting during the month of October.
